Chavez-DeRemer’s chief of staff, Jihun Han, and his deputy, Rebecca Wright, were under investigation regarding accusations that taxpayer dollars were used on personal trips with family and friends, according to the New York Post , which first reported the resignations. Han and Wright were placed on leave in mid-January after being named in a whistleblower complaint that claimed they helped coordinate professional travel for Chavez-DeRemer to coincide with personal trips. The complaint also accused the secretary of drinking on the job, having an “inappropriate” relationship with a member of her security detail, and alleged that the senior staffers were aware of her behavior, according to The Post . All three have denied wrongdoing. The New York Times reported that Han and Wright resigned under pressure from the White House on Monday night, which had directed the Labor Department to fire them if they did not step down within 24 hours. The White House and Department of Labor did not immediately return The Hill’s request for comment on Tuesday. The inspector general has reportedly conducted interviews with dozens of people as part of its investigation, during which two staffers told officials that they had been sexually assaulted by Chavez-DeRemer’s husband , according to the Times. The female staffers accused Dr. Shawn DeRemer of inappropriately touching them inside the building. A person familiar with the matter told the newspaper that one incident in mid-December was captured on security footage, showing DeRemer giving an extended hug to a woman. DeRemer, an Oregon-based anesthesiologist, was barred from entering the DOL’s Washington, D.C. headquarters last month. His attorney told the Post that his client “categorically, unequivocally, and emphatically denies each and every one of the allegations.” Add as preferred source on Google Tags Lori Chavez-DeRemer Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media Inc.
