Buc-ee’s is expanding to new states: Where (and when) travel centers will open

(NEXSTAR) – As popular as it is, Buc-ee’s and its Beaver Nuggets aren’t as prevalent as you may have guessed.

At present, Buc-ee’s can only be found in a dozen states. The travel center is working to change that.

In April, Buc-ee’s added a new state to its resume in Ohio, recording over $1 million in sales during opening day in Huber Heights. The town’s mayor told Nexstar’s WDTN that it may have been the biggest grand opening, sales-wise, that Buc-ee’s had ever seen.

More grand openings are expected in the coming years. Next on the schedule is a late June opening in Goodyear, Arizona, set to be the first in the state.

Later this year, Arkansas hopes to see its inaugural Buc-ee’s store open in Benton. A company spokesperson previously told Nexstar that the location is on track to open in August.

Other “firsts” aren’t expected until next year.

Wisconsin’s first Buc-ee’s is on track to open in Oak Creek in April 2027, while a location in Ruston, Louisiana, is targeting a mid-2027 opening. Kansas’s first Buc-ee’s is also expected to open next year in Kansas City.

The location in Mebane, North Carolina’s first Buc-ee’s, is slated to open its doors in the fourth quarter of 2027. The company was previously targeting a late 2026 or early 2027 opening. Additional stores are expected in the state, according to local reporting.

Meanwhile, several states are awaiting their newest Buc-ee’s location.

In July, another Texas location store is scheduled to open in San Marcos.

Next year, travel centers in Monroe County, Georgia; Lafayette, Louisiana; and St. Lucie and Tallahassee, Florida, are scheduled to open.

Construction delays pushed back the timeline for the Buc-ee’s in Oak Grove, Kentucky, where local reporting suggests it may not be complete until 2027 or later. Similar delays pushed back the opening date of the travel center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, to May 2027, Nexstar’s WREG reported last month.

Local officials confirmed two locations in Arkansas will open later than expected after project delays. The Buc-ee’s coming to Fayette County, near Memphis, is targeting a May 2027 opening date, nearly a year past the summer 2026 that was originally expected. The center in West Memphis has been pushed to June 2028, two years beyond its targeted time, Nexstar’s WREG reported in December.

Residents in Ocala, Florida, are set to see their Buc-ee’s location open in 2028.

A handful of other locations are also expected to open in 2029 or beyond.

According to Buc-ee’s, it takes about 18 to 24 months to build a travel center once construction begins.
