DeepL, the prominent German AI translation firm, has announced the acquisition of Mixhalo, a San Francisco-based startup specializing in real-time, low-latency audio streaming for live events. Originally founded in 2016 by musician Mike Einziger and CEO Vik Singh, Mixhalo built its reputation by providing high-quality audio experiences for concerts and sports venues. By integrating Mixhalo’s infrastructure, DeepL aims to bridge the gap between its existing text-based translation prowess and the complex requirements of live, in-person multilingual communication.

This strategic move marks a significant expansion for DeepL, which has been aggressively scaling its voice-to-text and voice-to-voice translation capabilities throughout 2024. For DeepL, the acquisition serves a dual purpose: it provides a robust technological framework to deliver real-time translation at scale and acts as a high-visibility marketing showcase.
