Universal Studio Group Highlights Below-the-Line Talent in FYC Campaign
Universal Studio Group (USG) has launched a unique "For Your Consideration" (FYC) campaign, utilizing nearly 1,000 pole banners across Los Angeles to spotlight below-the-line artisans rather than traditional on-screen stars. This initiative, part of the studio's "USG University" program, marks a significant departure from standard industry marketing by placing crew members—such as cinematographers, costume designers, and hair department heads—at the forefront of their Emmy season promotion.
The campaign, which coincides with the final weeks of Emmy campaigning, serves a dual purpose: celebrating the technical mastery behind television production and supporting the Motion Picture & Television Fund’s (MPTF) "Passing the Torch" mentorship program. By featuring 13 specific artisans on high-visibility public signage, USG aims to emphasize that the success of modern storytelling is inextricably linked to the dedication and skill of the crew.
This move is particularly notable for its potential to shift industry perceptions regarding award recognition. By elevating below-the-line talent to the status of "stars" in their creative materials, USG is advocating for greater visibility for the technical crafts that define the quality of the studio system. This strategic pivot not only honors the workforce of today but also aligns with the studio's broader commitment to educating and fostering the next generation of industry professionals through mentorship and professional development.
