“It’s also super toxic in a lot of ways, so I think that would be interesting to watch.”

We recently sat down with the cast of Off Campus and, as it's a show adapted from a popular book series, asked the cast to tell us what book they'd love to see adapted to the screen.

Piatkus / Amazon Prime Video

Mika Abdalla: The Goodbye Cat by Hiro Arikawa

BuzzFeed UK / Doubleday

“I actually tried to option this book. I don't actually know how they'd do it because it’s a bunch of short stories about cats. It’s just one of the most heartbreaking books.”

About the book: Following up the bestselling The Travelling Cat Chronicles, we follow seven cats as they meander along through their owners' lives, weaving and softly slinking their way through their surroundings.

Belmont Cameli: Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

BuzzFeed UK/ Penguin

“Right now, I’m reading Cat’s Cradle, and I’d love to see that adapted. When I read Vonnegut, there’s a lot of imagery, and it’s very character-driven. That would be a fun adaptation. I feel like Wes Anderson could do that.”

About the book: In classic Vonnegut fashion, this anti-arms race novel blends science fiction and dark satire in order to reflect on the absurdity of humanity and its self-destructive endeavours.

Ella Bright: The Thing About Jellyfish by Ali Benjamin

BuzzFeed UK / Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

“It’s a book I read as a kid, and I just love it. It’s one of my favourite books of all time, so I’d love to see that adapted.”

About the book: After losing her best friend in what everyone believes was a drowning, Suzy becomes obsessed with proving that a rare jellyfish sting was really to blame. She thus embarks on an emotional journey of grief, discovery, and hope that leads her to see the beauty and mystery woven through life and the world around her.

Josh Heuston: Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakam

BuzzFeed UK / Vintage

“I don’t think it’s been done yet. I really love that book, and it’s also super toxic in a lot of ways, so I think that would be interesting to watch.”

About the book: Quiet and serious Tokyo student Toru is caught between his devotion to the emotionally troubled Naoko, shaped by the tragedy of his best and her boyfriend’s death, and his growing connection with a confident, independent classmate. This state of confusion only increases as he navigates loneliness, love, and coming-of-age in the turbulent spirit of the 1960s.

Stephen Kalyn: Survive the Night by Riley Sager

BuzzFeed UK / Dutton

“I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was really fun, and I think that someone like Netflix would do a really good job with it. So shout-out to Netflix if you’re doing that — I’d love to be in it. Please put me in that; I’d take the role.”

About the book: After joining a college ride share home with a mysterious student named Josh, Charlie grows increasingly convinced that he may be the notorious Campus Killer, forcing her into a tense and terrifying journey where every conversation could determine whether she survives to reach her destination.

Jalen Thomas Brooks: Giovani's Room

BuzzFeed UK / Penguin Classics

"I'm a big James Baldwin fan, so I'd love to see something like Giovani's Room or Go Tell It on the Mountain be adapted."

About the book: Set among the restless world of American expatriates in contemporary Paris, this powerful novel follows a young man torn between desire and societal expectations as he confronts the complicated realities of love, passion, and identity.
