A NOTE FROM SCOTT As the entertainment industry shifts its focus from the Oscars race to the Emmys race, I am shifting the focus of the Feinberg Forecast from the former (I’m pleased to report that I tied for this year’s best score among all pundits by correctly calling 21 of the 24 categories) to the latter.

I will update my Emmys projections frequently — starting with 17 categories in this installment, and adding additional categories with each subsequent installment — en route to the eligibility cutoff (May 31), nominations voting (June 11-22), the nominations announcement (July 8), final voting (August 17-26) and the 78th Primetime Emmys Creative Arts Awards (Sept. 5 and 6) and Awards (Sept. 14).

How, you might wonder, is it possible to evaluate the Emmys race, given the overwhelming volume of TV content that’s out there these days? Well, I can only speak for myself: I check out — meaning, at least sample, and often complete — a great many shows that are being pushed for consideration, in order to obtain a strong sense of their content and quality. But just as importantly, I do my best to determine the extent to which TV Academy members have actually seen a show (or haven’t), which involves checking-in with voters, monitoring campaigns and making educated guesses. After all, people don’t vote for things or people they haven’t seen, no matter how good they are. (Remember the old question, “If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?” It really applies to the Emmys race.)

In any event, here is my read of the race in the first week of April, a mere 161 days, or 5 months and eight days, before Emmys statuettes will be handed out downtown. Let the games begin!
