Clearly, the casting agents on Dexter: Resurrection are serious people.

Brian Cox has joined season two of Paramount+ series Dexter: Resurrection as retired serial killer the New York Ripper. The New York Ripper — real name Dom Frant — was introduced as an in-universe character on the first season when Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Claudette Wallace (Kadia Saraf) found a file on the mass-murderer in Leon Prater’s (Peter Dinklage) vault. The Ripper/Frant was not depicted on screen.

Well, we now know what his face looks like, and that his voice sounds a hell of a lot like a McDonald’s commercial.

Though the Ripper may no longer be active as a killer, “he’s found a new way to live into his infamy by continuing to taunt the survivors of his long-ago murder spree,” according to the streamer’s announcement on Thursday.

Cox will be able to pull this one off. Not only is the man a brilliant actor, he’s got relevant experience: Cox played Hannibal Lecter in the 1986 film Manhunter. (Anthony Hopkins more-famously played the serial killer in 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs.)

Dexter: Resurrection, which resurrected Hall as Dexter Morgan, hails from showrunner Clyde Phillips. Hall also executive produces the sequel to Dexter, as does Scott Reynolds, Marcos Siega, Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Veronica West, Kirsa Rein, Tanner Bean and Katrina Mathewson. The streaming series hails from Paramount Television Studios and Counterpart Studios.

Season one of Dexter: Resurrection is available on Paramount+ via its “Premium” plan, which used to be called Paramount+ with Showtime; the OG Dexter was a big Showtime series.
