Kimmel's Perfect Response To Joke Critics

Jimmy Kimmel earlier this week said he had a feeling President Donald Trump's loyal MAGA media followers would find a way to blame him for the hospitalization of former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

“Sure enough, one of these podcast bozos points to a joke I made about Rudy on Thursday, about him being a vampire, and then suggests I might actually have some inside knowledge of what’s going on in Trumptown there,” he said.

Kimmel often makes jokes about Giuliani being a vampire and last week cracked that the former mayor “rose from the grave” to record his podcast. But with Giuliani hospitalized with pneumonia days after the joke, figures in right-wing media attacked Kimmel.

“And then that becomes a thing,” Kimmel said in disbelief and rolled footage of a Newsmax panel slamming him for his joke. “It’s not funny,” one of the panelists declared about his Giuliani joke. “He’s just really not funny,” another agreed. “It’s abhorrent, what he’s doing under the gauze of comedy.”

When the camera came back to Kimmel, he was standing under a giant gauze held up by his writers. “The gauze gives me psychic abilities. This is how I work: Every day in the morning, I wake up, I make coffee, and then I look into the future to see which events have yet to occur,” he explained. “And then we write jokes, but we write jokes that we know are going to make trouble.”

That’s a reference to not just his Giuliani vampire crack, but a joke last month when he said first lady Melania Trump was glowing “like an expectant widow” during a mock roast days before the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner.

Days later, after a shooter tried to get into the actual dinner, both the president and first lady called on ABC to fire Kimmel. Despite the latest outrage on the right, Kimmel said he wished Giuliani well.

“For the record, I hope Rudy Giuliani lives another hundred years. He earned that outside the dildo shop,” he said, a reference to one of the most poorly planned news conferences of all time. “That was the funniest thing any person has done this century.”
