Microsoft Faces Strategic Challenges in the Agentic AI Era
Microsoft’s recent Build developer conference highlighted the company’s aggressive pivot toward agentic AI, yet the event unfolded against a backdrop of mounting internal and external pressures. Despite CEO Satya Nadella’s optimistic vision for AI-driven productivity, the company is grappling with stagnant stock performance and lukewarm adoption rates for its Copilot suite. These struggles suggest that Microsoft’s early lead in the generative AI race is being challenged by more agile competitors, most notably Anthropic, which has gained significant traction with its advanced agentic coding capabilities.
Beyond product competition, Microsoft faces a critical challenge in maintaining the loyalty of the developer community.
