When Sofia the First premiered in 2013, it was frankly a dream come true for Disney princess fans. Starring Ariel Winter as 8-year-old Sofia, the show explored what happens when a regular kid became a princess overnight (I dare you not to have the theme song stuck in your head all day now) — and suddenly got to hang with all the classic Disney princesses.

So now as a mom of a three-year-old daughter who loves Disney princesses (and a one-year-old who loves what her sister loves), it's been a joy to introduce her to Sofia the First, and watch her eyes light up each time Sofia meets a new princess.

And now, it all comes full circle because Sofia the First: Royal Magic premieres next week. The new series follows Sofia as she navigates a new school — the Charmswell School for Royal Magic.

To celebrate the new release, my daughter (whom I'll refer to as "R" throughout for her privacy) got to actually ask Sofia herself some questions. Warning: You're not ready for the cuteness.

R: You go to a new school now. What do you do when you get scared?

Sofia: I love going to the Charmswell School for Royal Magic because I made some great friends there, like Princess Layla, Princess Camila, and Prince Zane. If I ever get scared, I can talk to them and they always make me feel better. Or I can cuddle with our school pet, Pepper the Puppercorn. He’s a puppy with a unicorn horn and is always there for me if I need him at school. If I’m home, though, my pet bunny Clover or my mom will give me a big hug if I ever get scared.

R: I say abracadabra to do magic, do you like magic tricks?

Sofia: I love magic tricks! Our Royal Sorcerer, Cedric, does the most ah-mazing tricks. And now that he’s a teacher at my new school, he shows me how to do new magic spells every day in class. I can make things float by saying “floatisimo!” I can also do other fun spells like turning rocks into jewels.

R: I am a sister too, what’s it like to be a sister with Amber now?

Sofia: It is so nice having a sister like Amber. We play together, go on fun adventures and tell each other everything. We’re best friends and Amber is always looking out for me. I know she’ll make a great queen one day.

R: What is it like to live in a castle?

Sofia: Before my mom married King Roland, we lived in a tiny shoe shop. Then I moved to a castle so huge, I got lost trying to find my room on the first day I moved in. But now that I know my way around, I really like living in such a big house. We can race down the long hallways or play in the gardens or go to the stables and pet the flying horses! When Amber, James and I play hide-and-seek, we never run out of places to hide!

R: Is Clover funny?

Sofia: Clover is the funniest bunny I’ve ever met! He makes me giggle all the time! Whenever I am sad, I know that Clover can cheer me up. Not only does he love to joke around, but he snores in a silly way, too. Clover is the best blue ribbon bunny ever!

R: What was it like to meet the Disney princesses? (What was Tiana like? I love Tiana.)

Sofia: I still can’t believe I’ve gotten to meet so many princesses. They are all so kind and brave. When I met Tiana, she really helped me and even sang a song to me. She showed me that the best gifts come from the heart, just like her cooking! I’ve also met Rapunzel, Ariel, Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, Mulan, Jasmine, Snow White and Merida. I’m hoping one day soon, I’ll get to meet Moana, too!

R: Is your amulet really magic?

Sofia: It is! It’s called the Amulet of Avalor. My dad gave it to me when I first moved into the castle—and I’ve worn it ever since. The amulet lets me do tons of magical things like talk to animals, grow big or small, and get help from my favorite princesses whenever I’m in trouble. And the amulet still gives me new magical powers every once in a while!

R: Does Baileywick give out good snacks?

Sofia: He sure does! Baileywick knows all our favorite foods and brings them whenever we ask, as long as we say please and thank you. My dad says Baileywick makes the best jiggly wiggly pudding in the kingdom!

R: Do you have a favorite color? Mine is purple.

Sofia: Wow! Purple is my favorite color, too! It’s the color of my favorite dress and some of the jewels in my tiara, too.

R: What is your biggest princess lesson?

Sofia: Being a true princess is not about wearing the fanciest gown or tiara. It’s about being a good person, treating others with kindness, and never giving up when things are tough.
