Democratic strategist James Carville on Monday said President Trump is deteriorating at a “rapid rate” as he weighs options regarding Iran and works on messaging to the American people.
Trump, who announced Tuesday evening a two-week pause in striking Iran amid a developing ceasefire, addressed the nation last week and again on Monday to outline the military objectives in Iran.
Following the president’s address, Carville said, “You could just look at the guy as just an average person and say, ‘This man is deteriorating at a really rapid rate,’” during an appearance on MS NOW’s “The Beat.”
The comments came before Trump changed course on Tuesday’s deadline to bomb Iran if the Strait of Hormuz was not reopened.
“I don’t know, I mean, but it’s evident. I mean, Alex Jones sees it, you see, can see it all over the right. Got Megyn Kelly and Tucker fighting with Mark Levin. I can’t even keep track of all of them. They hate each other when they hate us,” he added.
Conservative commentator and conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, former Fox News host Megyn Kelly and former Fox News host Tucker Carlson have argued that Trump was pushed into launching strikes on Iran while urging him to scale back in the war, condemning his threat to strike civilian infrastructure as an illegal order.
But with the two-week pause announced, the ultimate plan remains unclear.
“America is sinking in global rankings, likability. It’s just not what we voted for. We’ve never seen rhetoric out of presidents like this when we go to war, even if you’re for this war. This is really bad PR, folks,” Jones said on his podcast last week.
On Tuesday, Jones went further and slammed the president’s latest threat to bomb “a whole civilization” in Iran if demands were not met.
“That is the definition of genocide,“ Jones, typically a Trump supporter, said in a video posted on the social platform X. “Not a war. Not a defensive war but a literal bombardment, like martians, you know, attack us and we don’t have a defense.”
Conservative media personality Mark Levin has vigorously defended Trump’s decision to strike Iran and argued he was not influenced by Israel or any other external force to start the war.
He slammed Former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent for resigning in support of claims that the president was influenced by Israel and labeled Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) a “jew hater” for opposing funding for Israel’s Iron Dome in the face of the war.
Levin has also criticized coverage of Carlson’s comments on the war.
“The media continue to promote this lunatic Carlson because they can pretend they’re reporting news when they’re trashing POTUS,” he wrote in a Tuesday post on X.
