France TV Distribution has secured the international sales rights for the inaugural episode of "Apocalypse Civilizations: Rome," a new expansion of the highly successful "Apocalypse" documentary franchise. Directed by Thomas Marlier, the project focuses on the pivotal Battle of Actium, detailing the historic power struggle between Octavian and the alliance of Mark Antony and Cleopatra. The documentary is set to make its market debut at the upcoming Sunny Side of the Doc event in La Rochelle, France.

This acquisition marks a significant milestone for the "Apocalypse" brand, which has established itself as a global powerhouse in historical non-fiction since its inception in 2013. Renowned for its pioneering use of colorized archival footage, the series has successfully bridged the gap between academic historical analysis and mass-market appeal. With a track record of being broadcast in over 180 countries, the franchise remains a cornerstone of French documentary exports.

The expansion into the Roman era signals a strategic shift for the series, moving beyond its traditional focus on 20th-century conflicts to explore ancient history. By applying its signature immersive production techniques to the fall of the Roman Republic, the production team aims to revitalize interest in classical history for modern audiences. For international distributors, this acquisition represents a high-value asset with a proven history of strong ratings and broad cross-cultural resonance.
